MORNINGSIDE VILLA
This magnificent semi-detached villa in the Morningside conservation area had a drab, dark dining extension added to the property 20 years previously. The extension robbed natural light from the now internal kitchen with its low ceiling line. When the ceiling came down in the extension, it became clear that a raised roof profile and additional windows and skylight would add a feeling of space and, at the same time, bring more light into the room. Adding a new window in the gable wall of the kitchen would also provide much-needed natural light, making the rear of the property a nicer place to be.
Existing timber truss roof structure exposed once plasterboard ceiling was fully removed.

NEW ROOF STRUCTURE: The existing timber trusses have been replaced with stainless steel tension rods. Creating an open, bright room with light flooding in through the once-obscured skylights.
The addition of a new skylight above the french door, and window on the southwest wall add to the natural light while also giving views to the mature garden.
EXISTING KITCHEN: The existing internal kitchen was dark and unfriendly.
The new timber sash and case window added in the gable wall allows natural daylight to reach the kitchens' interior.
The existing drainage has been relocated to allow the new window to the kitchen to be installed.
New kitchen window has sandstone surrounds to match the existing, adjacent windows.
